Elwick Stud is a small, bespoke stud set along the beautiful North East coastline owned by the Turnbull family.
Elwick Stud is an exclusive boarding facility for top-class mares (broodmare boarding) and their offspring. We offer a specialist foaling service, with the ability to care for mares in foal for a whole year’s boarding or a shorter month peri-natal service taking the stress of foaling your mare from you by our team of experts in foaling for some of the best pedigrees in the UK and beyond. We also offer broodmare boarding livery, either whilst your mare undergoes the breeding process or for the duration of her pregnancy and even beyond. Allow us to provide the best care and support for your mare and foal.
At the stud
Our team of highly skilled staff ensure not only the highest quality of bloodstock breeding but also incomparable care for your horse during the process.
Here at Elwick Stud we take on broodmares during the entire breeding season or for a short-term foaling period at least a month before the mare's due date. This ensures every mare in our care, either our own or a customer's receives the same impeccable care.
As well as our state-of-the-art facilities, care and knowledge we ensure that we can support you in your quest for winners and indeed on the path to success at the sales in keeping thoroughbred mares.
Enviroment
Elwick Stud occupies just over 200 acres of prime, well-drained and gently sloping pastureland which is tested regularly ensuring the grazing grass is kept in optimum condition.
The secure and tranquil surroundings ensure a stress-free environment for horses of all ages, either in the large, rolling meadows or the nursery paddocks used for new foals and their dams.
Services
Elwick Stud provides bespoke personalised services to suit the requirements of horses and their owners, including the following:
- Individual care for each animal.
- Mares taken for permanent or temporary livery, including foaling.
- Mares prepared for covering and walking into selected stallions.
- Expert sale preparation for mares, foals and yearlings.
- Rest and/or rehabilitation of horses out of training or preparing for sale.
- All boarding arrangements are based on the Thoroughbred Breeders’ Association Boarding Agreement.
- Owners are welcome to visit and are regularly kept informed as to the progress of their stock.
SPELLING
We offer a spelling service for horses taking a break from racing during the season.
